Zlatibor Church
The Church of the Transfiguration is located in the very heart of the tourist center of Zlatibor. At the request of the locals who lived in the center of Zlatibor, but also due to the needs of an increasing number of tourists, in a place that was not inhabited in the past and therefore did not have a church, the construction of a church began in 1993, with the blessing of the then Bishop of Žica, G. Stefan. The construction of the temple lasted twenty years and it was consecrated on Michaelmas Day 2013. It was built with contributions from believers, donors and local government funds.
The temple stands out for its beauty and monumentality. According to its architectural concept, this church represents a complex combination of different styles. The Church of the Transfiguration in Zlatibor is a three-aisled building with a transverse nave, which forms an elongated cross with a middle nave, an altar apse to the east, a chancel with an entrance, a spacious gallery and a bell tower to the west. Next to the main church, in the narthex on the north side there is a chapel dedicated to the Holy Prophet Moses, while the baptistery is located in the southern part.
The project of the church was made by a group of professors from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade, led by associate professors Aleksandar Radojević and Borivoj Anđelković. The main construction works of this temple were completed in 2005, when the bishop of Žič, Chrysostom, consecrated the cross on the dome of the temple.
The altar apse was painted by an academic painter from Novi Sad, prof. Vidoje Tucović. The central dome of the temple was painted with the blessing of the Bishop of Žica, G. Justin, under the guidance of the academic painter from Greece, prof. Constantine Stergiou. Work on painting the remaining surfaces is underway. The creation of the remaining painting was entrusted to Mr. Radan Radojlović, an academic painter from Ćuprija.
One of the rarities of the temple is the cross, which is raised on the highest point of the church. Its peculiarity consists in the fact that the four letters "S" on it are facing each other. In it, the famous catchphrase of the Serbian people "Only accord saves the Serbs" finds its full expression.
The entire complex is rounded off by a wonderful parish house, the work of local architect Mr. Branko Ignjatović. The home has a library, a guest house, and rest rooms.
In the gate of the temple there is a church shop where you can find a large selection of icons, rich spiritual literature, as well as everything that is necessary for a Christian family.
