The church in Mackat was completed in 1859. It is dedicated to St. Elijah and has valuable antiques from the 19th century.
The church in Mackato was built on the site of the old medieval necropolis, for which the people keep the legend about the victory of the young King Dušan over the Bogomils. After the demolition of the log church in Kriva Reka in the middle of the 19th century, with the approval of Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević, a new church was completed in 1859 in the center of the Zlatibor village of Mackata. Rare, remaining valuables were also transferred from the old temple in Krivoreč to Mačkat, and the same patron of the temple was taken over, that is, this place of worship is also dedicated to St. Elijah.
This is a one-nave building with a chancel and a nave, which shares a wall with niches. There are long and narrow semicircular arched windows and a portal on the northern and southern facades. There is an arched frieze around the entire building. In the middle of the 19th century, Dimitrije Posniković decorated the walls and altar partition of the original church with his paintings.
Due to unprofessional construction, and as a result of blasting the bell tower to remove and carry away the bell by Austrian soldiers, the church was badly damaged in the first decades of the 20th century, and since 1915 it has been dangerous for worshipers and worship. The church was renovated at the beginning of the 30s of the last century thanks to Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, and on that occasion the roof was renovated and on the west side of the church a vestibule with a massive belfry was built. During the renovation of the church, Posnikovic's iconostasis was preserved, while its wall paintings were not preserved. The imperial doors from the 19th century, the work of the painter Pavle Čortanović, have also been preserved. The church also houses the enthroned icon of Jesus Christ, the work of Aleksi Lazović.
This church also owns several special icons, transferred from the old Chajetine log cabin church in Cerovo (1810-1860): Saint Sava, Stephen the Virgin, Virgin with Christ, Jesus Christ, Great Martyr George (on which there is a founding inscription from 1809), then Archangel Michael and Saint George, an icon from Mount Athos donated to the church by Ljubomir Kovačević, which he received on Athos in 1898. More recently, in 2000, Danica Šišović painted frescoes of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and in 2009, Jovana Jovanović painted a mosaic of St. Elijah the Archangel above the main portal.
The book of births from 1837 to 1850 and the Greek antimins, a gift from serdar Jovan Mićić, were transferred to this church. Among the antiques is a cross made by a goldsmith and two apprentices from the 19th century, as well as a holy silver chalice with the inscription: "Contribution of Queen Natalija to the Church of St. Elijah".
