Gallery of Miladin Lekić
Next to the highway Užice-Višegrad, in the village of Šljivovici in Braneško polje, there is a gallery and workshop of the self-taught woodcarver Miladin Lekić.
This self-taught artist creates unusual wood sculptures using a chainsaw, chisel, hammer and file. Walnut, mulberry and oak are most often used for construction, and Slavonian oak for furniture.
Among his figures, wooden peasants measuring from 30 centimeters to two meters, then an unusual woman with a snake, an eagle, a lion, an elephant, numerous icons, wooden coffins with wood carvings, a beautiful table with a carved "Last Supper" attract the most attention.
The most famous work of this artist is certainly the "Zlatibor express train", a figure of a mountain horse and a peasant, which is located in the very center of the Zlatibor tourist resort near the lake. The sculpture is about 3 meters high, and the artist used oak (peasant) and elm wood (mountain horse) to create this sculpture. The sculpture was created according to the photo of the famous Užice post-war photographer Ilija Lazić. The photo adorned the window of his photo shop for a long time, it features Todor Udovicič, a bricklayer from the Zlatibor village of Stublo. Later, this photo was named "Zlatibor express train". One such figurine adorns the house of our famous tennis player Novak Djokovic.
His life-size figures usually adorn ethnic villages, so they can be seen in Zlakusa, Kremn, Mokra Gora, but also throughout Serbia. His sculptures also complete the appearance of the newly opened theme park "Cowboy City" in Vodice.
Miladin Lekić exhibits his works of art at tourism and furniture fairs in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
